With more than 15 million books in print, Frank Peretti is without a doubt the world’s best-selling author of faith-based spiritual thrillers.

But the wide range of his thrillers also makes it a bit more challenging when it comes to recommending the right book to read next. His thrillers cover a number of genres and age groups, so when looking for a Peretti book to read, it’s best to decide which group of books to start with first.

For Ages 10-14

The Cooper Kid Adventures is a series of Indiana Jones-like books written by Frank Peretti. The book tells the tale of teens Lila and Jay and archaeologist Jake Cooper and their adventures through overgrown jungles and battles against ancient evil forces. Each adventure also teaches spiritual and biblical values, wrapped around exciting stories of discovery.

For Ages 14 and Up

The Veritas Project books center on the adventures of teens Elijah and Elisha Springfield, who are commissioned by the president to investigate unusual mysteries surrounding the supernatural and paranormal. Codenamed The Veritas Project (Latin for truth), they are tasked with discovering not only what happened, but why. The series has been called an X-Files for believers and that’s a pretty good description of what readers can expect.

A Pro-Life Message

One of the more memorable novels by Peretti is Tilly, a book with a pro-life message. Kathy, an exhausted wife and mother, falls asleep one day and dreams that she is in heaven. She meets a young girl named Tilly, who is the daughter she aborted nine years earlier. She and Tilly reconcile and Tilly shares God’s message of forgiveness and restoration.

The book was a best seller and continues to be given away as gifts at pro-life events and rallies nationwide.

Spiritual Warfare

Some of Frank Peretti’s best-selling works center on the theme of spiritual warfare. This Present Darkness and its follow-up, Piercing the Darkness, are thrillers that begin with an unsettling discovery. A skeptical reporter and a pastor in the small town of Ashton uncover a New Age plot to subjugate the townspeople, and eventually the entire human race.

With more than 3 million copies in print, the two books mix a reminder for the need for prayer with action and thrills that rival the most exciting mainstream novel.

Another bestseller in this category is The Visitation, which tells the story of the sleepy Washington town of Antioch. A rash of sightings of angels and a weeping crucifix bring the world’s media to a town where burned-out pastor Travis Jordan has been trying to hide his past. But he’s finally forced to discuss a remarkable visitation and the spiritual implications behind it.

A Straight-Ahead Thriller

The Oath is a more traditional thriller set in Hyde River, an isolated mining town in the mountains of the Pacific Northwest. When residents begin disappearing, the town closes in to protect a secret oath that threatens to tear this quiet town apart. The book is considered by many fans to be one of Peretti’s best works and it certainly is an amazing read.

A Story of Bullying

While he’s best known for his fiction, Peretti wrote a very jarring non-fiction book about the impact of bullying. No More Bullies: For Those Who Wound and Are Wounded tells his own story and shows readers the way to heal these “invisible, but crippling wounds.” He writes about how bullying can cut across every racial and socioeconomic category and reminds viewers that these wounded children grow up to be wounded adults who need help to move past their childhood traumas.
