Maybe it sounds like too personal of a question, but it’s one that needs to be asked — How is your prayer life? Is it filled with short, fast popcorn prayers that you shoot up rapidly towards the sky in a panic? Or maybe it’s filled with a large shopping list of requests? Maybe it’s routine and memorized, like:

God is great, God is good, let us thank Him for our food.

Or …

Now I lay me down to sleep. I pray the Lord my soul to keep.

Perhaps it’s just a jumbled up conglomeration of words that end in, “in Jesus’ name, Amen!”

Remember that there’s no right or wrong way to speak to the Lord, but there are ways to make your prayer time more meaningful and powerful. During prayer, your words are far more than just mere spoken phonetic syllables or idle talk.

One way to discover the power of believers is to stand together in prayer. As impossible or spiritual as it sounds, when you pray in faith with other believers, God not only hears your prayers, but joins right in with you.

Prayer is communication with God. Even though you cannot physically see God, your prayer communication is not a monologue of one-way speech shooting toward the clouds. Prayer is a Christian’s connection to the throne of God. The Bible says that He inhabits our praise:

For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them. Matthew 18:20

This means that when believers come together in like minds before the throne of God, it’s like a heavenly party where God shows up. God not only hears our prayers, but He truly is a part of the conversation and is present.

Since the Scripture in Matthew talks about God showing up when two or three believers gather, it is just as important to pray together with other believers as it is to pray by yourself. So, what do you do if you don’t know anyone to ask to be your prayer partner or if you have an emergency that requires immediate prayer?

Prayer partners are available around the world any time of day or night, online. Believe.com provides helpful resources in their Pray It Forward section, where it is very easy and convenient to post prayer requests or an entire prayer that others will see online and share their encouragement in the comments.

Nothing is too unimportant or too overwhelming to share. These believers may be halfway around the world, or up in the middle of the night in an entirely different time zone, yet they are agreeing and praying with you for your needs. They are coming together with you before the throne of God, who listens and becomes a part of your prayer time.

Prayer is also a joyous time when believers voice praises and speak words of worshipful adoration towards God, or a time to sit silent and tap into the presence of God. Instead of typing out your request alone, if you prefer, share an entire prayer. It may be a prayer of praise or thanksgiving about getting a job promotion or receiving a good health report.

Feel free to type out prayers found in Scripture or words that express who Jesus is, or recall biblical accounts that spark faith or trigger words of wisdom. Or, it may be a prayer that speaks your request in the exact words that you desire others to pray along with in agreement. Either way, there is power when believers come together in prayer.
