It’s the weekend – Hooray! Everyone has plans complete with romantic dates with that special someone. That is, everyone but you.

If you will be facing another Friday night and alone, don’t despair – there are plenty of fun things to do on the weekends without a significant other.

The first big obstacle to get over, and get over fast, is to convince yourself that being alone on a Friday night really isn’t something to be ashamed of.

On the contrary, call up one of your married friends who has children and she will tell you how desperately she longs to have a moment to herself. When the right friend or mate enters your life, life has a way of changing very rapidly, so sit back and enjoy these single nights alone while you have the chance.

I want you to be free from anxieties. The unmarried man is anxious about the things of the Lord, how to please the Lord. But the married man is anxious about worldly things, how to please his wife, and his interests are divided. And the unmarried or betrothed woman is anxious about the things of the Lord, how to be holy in body and spirit. But the married woman is anxious about worldly things, how to please her husband. 1 Corinthians 7:32-34

Do something you’ll look back on and be glad you did. Make the most of every Friday night you find yourself alone, without a date. Use one of these six ideas for what to do without a significant other:

Take Yourself on a Date

Don’t wait to be asked out to enjoy yourself on a Friday night. Go ahead, you deserve it. Watch a movie you’ve been wanting to see. Even if you go to a movie with a date, it’s not the best setting to talk anyway. Visit a new coffee shop, restaurant or bookstore. Who knows? Maybe you’ll even meet your Prince Charming or Princess Cinderella while you’re out.

Pamper Yourself

Schedule a massage, a night at the spa, work out at the gym or savor a box of dark chocolates. Light a candle, dim the lights and take a soothing bubble bath. Whatever you choose to do, just pamper yourself.

Cook Something New

Why go out? Stop by the grocery store to pick up some fresh ingredients and cook something new. Just because you don’t have a date doesn’t mean you have to settle for ramen noodles or greasy pizza delivery. Discover a new recipe and serve it on your best dishes.

People-Watch at the Mall

Some of the best entertainment on a Friday night is to sit and observe the behavior of others. People-watch at a local mall. Grab a cup of coffee and just sit back on a bench in the center of the action.

Read a Great Book

Is there a book you’ve been wanting to read? Now is the perfect time to cozy up in your pajamas with some wine or a hot cup of tea and focus on reading a great book. No one will distract you or interrupt your reading.

Spend Time Alone with the Prince of Peace

Is your heart is longing for a knight in shining armor to sweep you off your feet or for a gorgeous princess to take your breath away? This is the best time to get to know the Prince of Peace.

These nights when you find yourself all alone are the perfect opportunities to really get to know Jesus. Open up the Bible to read, or put on some Christian music and dance around your living room. Get down on your knees, and offer praise and prayer to Christ. Pray for peace. Pray for guidance. Pray for a mate, or just sit in quiet, soaking up the presence of the one who loves you most.

My beloved spoke, and said to me, “Rise up, my love, my beautiful one, and come away. Song of Solomon 2:10
