Unto thee, O LORD, do I lift up my soul. O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me. Yea, let none that wait on thee be ashamed: let them be ashamed which transgress without cause. Shew me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths. Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.Psalms 25: 1-5

Are you struggling with addiction to cigarettes, drugs or alcohol? Are you recovering from past physical or emotional abuse or another trauma? Having trouble balancing your regular family and work life with debilitating issues? The Celebrate Recovery Daily Devotional was written to help you through whatever trials you are facing today.

Co-authored by John Baker, Johnny Baker, and Mac Owen, the Daily Devotional is a book that provides inspiration on a daily basis, connecting faith in Christ to recovery.

In the introduction, John Baker writes, “It is my prayer that the Celebrate Recovery Daily Devotional will be a very helpful tool in your recovery journey. Each daily devotion contains a Bible verse and an inspirational story. The devotion ends with a short prayer for you to share directly with God to help you live out a new growth opportunity for each day.”

Each daily devotional is different, featuring a different story, prayer, and Bible verse. Themes that run throughout the book include the importance of relationships, trust in God, the power of prayer, encouragement, and taking an active role in your own recovery.

A few highlights of the book include Day 14’s “PUSH” or “(P)ray (U)ntil (S)omething (H)appens” and Day 16’s “Celebrate Your Recovery.” This PUSH devotional encourages readers to keep praying to and believing in God; even if they think He’s not listening, know that He has a plan for you.

It may not be the plan you think you want, but it will always be what you need. God always has our best interests at heart. And Day 16 encourages readers to continue on their path to recovery. Don’t give up; there is light at the end of the tunnel! The more you work toward your goal the greater the outcome will be.

John Baker is a former alcoholic and food addict who created the program Celebrate Recovery through California’s Saddleback Church. The program has touched over one million lives, helping individuals from all walks of life to overcome their addictions and life difficulties.

Celebrate Recovery has been in existence for over a decade now and hosts regular programs for individuals of all ages. Baker has written many books in connection with his program, including Life’s Healing Choices, Your First Step to Celebrate Recovery, and Celebrate Recovery Leader’s Guide. The program follows eight steps to recovery, based on the Beatitudes.

If you’re looking for a way to help you recover from life’s hardships – little or big – this daily devotional is for you. It can be a great supplement to your regular Sunday worship, your recovery group sessions, and your talks with family and friends. When you find you need a little extra inspiration in your day, this guide will keep you going.

After an entire year spent reading passages from the Bible, listening to personal stories, and praying to God, you’ll feel changed and whole again. John Baker’s program has changed many lives, and through Daily Devotional, it can change yours, too.

The book has just been published this December 2013, and has already received a few reviews, all of which have been encouraging, mimicking reviews of past books, which consistently receive high praise. The healing process takes time and patience. Any help you can find – in the form of pastors, friends ,family, or even a daily devotional book – will ultimately help you to succeed in recovering.
