Matthew 5:6 – Blessed and fortunate and happy and spiritually prosperous (in that state in which the born-again child of God enjoys His favor and salvation) are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness (uprightness and right standing with God), for they shall be completely satisfied!

Life revolves around food. Wake up, eat. Get work done before lunch. Back to work, perhaps a snack. Then we sit down and talk about our day while we eat dinner. What are you thinking about now? Food. So it is no surprise that Jesus spoke of hunger. The shock though is in what it is we need to eat – righteousness.

The world is unrighteous. Unrighteousness is all around us and is broadcast in our homes, cars, on our phones, virtually everywhere we go. Our souls are hungry. Just as our lives revolve around eating, our soul needs to eat on a regular basis. Our soul will not go hungry. It will feed on whatever is available.

Ideally, souls long to eat righteousness. But if no righteousness is available, anything will do. This is why it is important to read the Bible, pray, and desire the presence of the Lord. These habits feed the soul righteousness. When our soul is satisfied with such things, unrighteousness does not affect us. But if we neglect Bible reading to watch television, or pick up a magazine instead of a daily devotional, our spirit will feed on unrighteousness.

Righteousness satisfies the soul. The world would have you believe otherwise. It screams, “Do this and you will be happy.” “Act like me, you will have it all.” Real satisfaction comes through feeding on the Word and presence of God. Get your fill of righteousness today.

Be amazing.
