When I was a little girl, I wasn’t the type to quickly defend myself. One time, after an inner lip surgery in the third grade, a fellow classmate made a cruel remark; I just turned crimson and walked away, trying to ignore it. As an adult, there are some battles you can walk away from, something my husband reminds me of often. But then again, there are some battles you have to face. So, how do you manage, in a godly way, to not let someone to walk all over you?

Let His Will Be Done

People may be demanding, cold, bitter or vengeful in their ways, but Lord tells us to not associate with one easily angered (Proverbs 22:24). It makes sense, because it’s hard to have a thriving relationship with someone you can’t have a civil conversation with.

If you’ve spoken your truth kindly, then sometimes it’s best to just walk away and leave the rest up to God. Allow His ways to step in versus having unfruitful conversations with that person, whether it’s a friend, a family member, a coworker or someone you just met. Praying for His will to be done is more fruitful than allowing that person to walk over you with their words.

“Stay away from people who are not followers of the Lord! Can someone who is good get along with someone who is evil? Are light and darkness the same?”  —2 Corinthians 6:14

Surrender To Him

Words have so much power; they can build someone up to feel they can conquer the world as quickly as they can destroy them. It’s no wonder God left us His Word, because they hold power. Don’t allow someone to belittle you or make you feel as though you’re the one always in the wrong. That is the kind of person that needs to reflect on their own ways of handling situations.

Why are they trying to control you and/or the situation? It’s nothing you need to know, but God does. It’s something we can surrender to Him. We simply don’t need to know all the answers, but we can give a person over to God and trust that He will take care of the situation and restore your battered heart.

If that person goes on to cast stones your way, or to put your name down before others or family, leave it up to God. He will bring a holiness out of calamity; He always does.

“Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, ‘Vengeance is mine, I will repay,’ says the Lord.”  —Romans 12:19

Instead of allowing someone to walk all over you, walk away and turn to God to find the peace you seek.
