Vicky and I met on ChristianMingle December of 2011. I had just joined the site and was looking through profiles and came across her. She on the other hand was becoming frustrated and was about to cancel her account – so essentially she was the first woman I contacted after I joined, and I was going to be the last man she would have contact with before cancelling. I’ll admit I was a little hesitant to contact her, but she told me later that she had seen that I had visited her profile a bit (OK, a lot) and was wondering when I would actually get in touch with her. I finally sent her a message, thankfully she replied back, and this began our correspondence. The more we wrote back to each other, the more I knew I wanted to meet her. After almost a month of messaging, I asked if we could meet face-to-face and suggested a wine shop near the city she lives in. She agreed enthusiastically, saying that the wine shop I chose was the same one she had a membership at!

We met on the evening of December 22 and hit it off right away, talking for hours until we realized just how hungry we were. I asked if we could continue our conversation over dinner, which we did across the street for another couple of hours. After the evening was over I asked if we could do this again sometime and she said “Yes!” I spent the Christmas holidays with my family and let them know that I had met a very special person that I couldn’t wait to get to know better.

One year later to the day, Vicky and I went back to the same wine shop where we had first met. After some wine I had the server bring us 2 glasses of her favorite champagne and offered her a toast, saying “Vicky: to an amazing year we’ve had, to a great year ahead of us…in fact…” I took the ring box from my left pocket, got down on one knee, and opened the box. “…I would love to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?” After catching her breath, she said yes, and we are currently engaged to be married on October 5 of this year!

What made ChristianMingle successful for us was the way it helped bring us together: through the search tools, the personality test, and the knowledge that the people we would find on there were not just people looking for long-term relationship, but a relationship that would be built on God’s love. It works differently for different people, but it does work. Vicky and I are proof of that. God works in mysterious ways, and for us he used ChristianMingle to help bring us together.
