“There are so many people out there who will tell you that you can’t. What you’ve got to do is turn around and say, ‘watch me.’” —Layne Beachley

It seems like all my life, I had people who told me I couldn’t do or be something. Recently in my life, I had people doubt my abilities and, for a second, it really made me doubt my own abilities.

After consulting with my friends and taking a step back to reassess the situation, I made it my drive to prove my naysayers wrong. As a matter of fact, I actually went above and beyond my goal.

It really feels good when you set your mind on something and finally achieving the results you wanted. Just like anything in life, obstacles and adversity will always be there and the true test is how you react to those obstacles. Will you give up or push forward?

“Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.” —Michael Jordan

In my line of work of sales and consultation, my most successful time in the business was when I bounced back from a low point and came in over the top to prove that I don’t get knocked down very easily. Personally, I found that was my biggest drive; it wasn’t the money or praise but being able to prove to the world and myself that I “CAN” and “WILL” do it!

Be persistent and resilient when you are tired, and when you feel you cannot go another step, reach deep inside and press on.

People Who Say You Can’t

I know I have always said to stay away from negative people, but what happens when you can’t? These people are the so-called haters, doubters and the non-believers. There are two things that I like implementing when you are up against these people.

  1. Have faith: Just like in the Church of God, you must have faith. Trust in yourself and trust that you can do it. Once you give up and settle at failing, you will never truly succeed in moving forward. “You have to believe in yourself when no one else does.” —Venus William
  2. Reverse the negativity: Believe it or not, you can look at the situation as a positive. Sometimes all it takes is a different perspective and not focusing on depression and frustration from the negative. Redirect your focus by using it as your strength and drive to overcome this adversity. Focus on the end result. “A lot of times people look at the negative side of what they feel they can’t do. I always look on the positive side of what I can do” —Chuck Norris

Watch Me

The difference between people who are successful and those who are not is an ability to bounce back from failures and doubts. If you believe you will fail, then you will fail. But if you believe that you will succeed, then you will succeed.

I encourage everyone to take a step back when people doubt you and use it as your drive to show those people that you can do it.
