Prayer has the power to open your heart, strengthen your mind and prepare you for life’s toughest struggles. So, while you’re praying for the health of your family and friends, why not pray for the health of your future relationship as well? This sacred privilege of communicating with the Lord can and should serve as a way for you to prepare your heart for the love that is waiting for you!
By praying for your future mate, you are learning how to intentionally seek God’s perfect match for you! On one hand, you are asking God to send you the kind of mate you have been looking for your whole life. On the other hand, you are starting a dialogue with God, asking Him to show you what to look for when it comes to finding a partner with solid values and a strong faith in Jesus. For while we think we know what’s best for us, only the Lord himself truly knows. “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (Matthew 6:33).
Begin preparing your heart for your future mate by asking God to help you get to know yourself better. In order to meet your perfect match, you are going to need to know what you want from your life, what you need from a partner and what will make your heart beat faster than ever before! With a stronger sense of self, you will be better prepared to find the person who truly completes you. This will also give you a greater awareness when it comes to holding firm on the things that are most important to you in your life. If you hope to spend you Sunday mornings in church with your partner, then you need to know that you should be looking for someone who wants the same thing. Ask God for His help revealing these things to you so that you may know what to look for as you search for “The One.”
From there, ask the Lord to help you see other people more clearly. Sometimes, the perfect partner can be right in front of us, but for one reason or another, we choose to ignore them. As you give thanks to God for the ability to know yourself on a deeper level, ask Him to guide you towards a strong, caring, respectful, faith-filled person. Ask Him to help you decipher what to look for in your future mate. Pray that He will guide you towards the kind of person that will not only make your life better, but be a strong partner for you on your Christian Walk as well.
Finally, ask God to grant you patience on your journey towards true love. Finding your perfect match is not easy. If it was, love wouldn’t be quite so exhilarating, would it? Pray that God grants you serenity and fills you with faith. And when you feel like you can’t hold on any longer, remember Romans 12:12, “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” God has a plan for you and your future mate, so ask God to help you understand that greater plan. That prayer alone will not only grant you patience, but prepare your heart for your future mate as well!
