Robert and I met in June of 2007 on ChristianMingle. We talked on the phone, emailed, and even video chatted for 16 months until we met. Because he was stationed in New York with the Army and I was living in Michigan working and raising my two sons, I learned more and more about a man I was falling in love with before I got the chance to meet him in person. In a way, I followed God’s word and fell in love with Robert from the inside out!
Robert ended up deploying to Afghanistan in January of 2009 and we still hadn’t met. Despite the distance, he wrote me every chance he got and emailed often. There were a few opportunities where he was able to video chat with me and my sons! One evening, I wrote him a letter pouring out my heart to him. I knew it could take weeks to arrive, but he needed to know about how I felt. Within just 2 days, I received an email from Robert telling me exactly how he felt. It was our Lord at work! We were in love from across the world. Still having not met, God showed us a true love starting with our hearts.
On September 23, 2009 we finally met when he came home to Houston, Texas on leave. When he stepped off that plane, in full uniform, I impatiently waited inside the airport with his family. As he came around the corner, I couldn’t resist but running into his arms and finally kissing him for the first time! He was only on leave for 14 days, but 4 days later on Sunday, September 27, 2009, we said “I Do”. Robert’s father, Coy, an Ordained Minister, pronounced us husband and wife. Now stationed in Texas, we have been happily married for more than 3 years. My sons see him as a father and Robert instills the word of God into their hearts. Robert is studying to become a Chaplin in the Army and is preparing for his 5th deployment overseas. He ministers to soldiers in need of God’s word. While he is gone, I take care of the wives left at home, offering words of wisdom. I finally have a best friend who I’ll love until we meet again in Heaven.
