Sometimes it seems as though the smallest situations can cause the largest calamities.

Just this week such a calamity occurred at our home. Here’s the short version: a lizard breaks into our home (insert small situation) – not like a flesh eating, bitter lizard, just a lizard lizard; our dog gets after the lizard – not like a large, capable dog, just a 10-pound Yorkie type dog; the girls begin to run (insert calamity); one daughter’s heel nicks the bottom edge of the cabinet and slightly cuts her foot; for some strange reason this brings nausea to the inside of her belly; this leads to her violently tossing her cookies. Laughter beyond laughter exploded after we realized everything was okay.

Sometimes it seems as though the smallest situations can cause the largest calamities.

Here’s my thought – I hope I can always keep the small things the small things.

Yet … this line of thought led me to remember that it’s the little things that matter many times. The unplanned laughter. The transparent conversation with your son that came out of nowhere. The kiss on the cheek.

Is there a difference between the little things and the small things? Where one is tiny and insignificant and the other is tiny yet massively important?

Small. Little. There actually is a difference and a key to a successful life is knowing the difference.

Oh … and that lizard? He’s still somewhere in the house.
