When the ball drops at the stroke of midnight, where will you be celebrating this year? Will it be in the arms of your forever darling or on the arm of new and intriguing dating interest? Here are a few New Year’s Eve date suggestions that range from rustic to dazzling to romantic.

1. Neighborhood Progressive Party

One of my favorite New Year’s evenings was spent romping through my neighborhood at a progressive New Year’s Party. This involves a little planning with friends and neighbors, but is well worth it for the fun factor. Find between three to five welcoming friends in close living proximity of each other who are willing to host a group for a part of the evening. Assign appetizers, salad or soup, an entrée, dessert, and the final champagne toast to each home (or apartment) and traipse around from home to home (walking only) to experience a delightful hodge-podge of entertaining activity.

One of the benefits of this type of party is the exercise, fresh ai, and bonding experience with the group because you are all on a shared journey together. Whether you are new to a relationship or married, this is a fabulous get-together to connect with friends you don’t get to spend enough time with. It’s also a low-key way to introduce your new someone to your group in a environment where everyone is relaxed and at ease.

2. Sleigh Ride Under The Moonlight

If intimacy is what you are longing for this holiday season, stealing away for some alone time and adventure might be just what you need. If you live in a snowy area, call around and find a sleigh ride to surprise your date. Pack warm blankets, favorite treats, hot cocoa and a toasting glass for champagne.

If you live near the water in warmer areas, rent a gondola or a horse and carriage and try a serenade under the twinkling stars. Some companies offer these specialty services with a dining experience or champagne package to go along with the ride. Check out your local attractions for more ideas.

3. Fancy NYE Party

If you desire a more traditional New Years’ experience, pull out those heels and a smoking-hot dress or a snazzy bow tie and find a pre-planned party at a country club or local hot spot that you can buy tickets to with a few friends and couples in advance. Look for parties that reflect your interest in music or life stage for the best fit.

A few years ago, a group of our friends, both dating and married, found an ‘80s themed New Year’s Eve gala at a local golf club. We dressed up like our middle school faves, from Madonna to prom queens with crimped hair to long-haired rockers with concert T-shirts and tuxes. Truthfully, getting ready was half the fun because we were in hysterics over our outrageous choice of outfits, but the party itself was an absolute blast and we danced our way into the New Year swaying to Foreigner and singing at the top of our lungs.

4. Romantic Dinner At Home

If your Christmas season has been nothing but hustle and bustle, then a nice romantic evening at home might be the all the celebration you need. If you are in a new relationship, dedicated time spent together talking and learning about one another is a both a delight and a necessity, and in the busy days of married life, downtime together is a sweet indulgence.

Light some candles, pull out the nice china and enjoy ushering in the New Year with your beloved. Consider ordering in a meal or prep and prepare a nice dinner together. Take your time and enjoy the extravagance of an evening alone. Mix up a fun cocktail, pull out your favorite games or movies and snuggle up for a smooch when the ball drops.

5. Party Bus

For a fun group adventure with your date, consider renting a limo or a party bus and picking a few destinations to travel to; find a great restaurant for dinner, then move to a wine bar and finish off with dancing at a New Year’s midnight celebration. Or, you can simply drive around and view Christmas lights and keep the party on the bus – just being with your friends is the best part!

Whatever you end up doing with your date for NYE, make sure to bring your toasting glasses for the evening’s end and a great attitude to ring in the new year on a high note.
