How did you meet? What was your first date like? Give us all the details!
We first began communicating via ChristianMingle in July of 2016. Joshua started the conversation by sending me an email through ChristianMingle. After I replied a few days later, Joshua attempted to view my email, only to find out that his subscription had ended, which denied him access to my email. He (quickly) paid the $45 to renew his account and our communication started. He says it’s the best $45 he ever spent! We had our first phone conversation on July 7th.

On July 29th, Joshua made a trip to California (we live 9.5 hours away from each other, so he had to travel down the day before and stay in a nearby hotel). We spent the entire day together, traveling up into the mountains to get out of the 100+ degree weather that my town was experiencing, and bridging the gap between our phone and text/email conversations and the new conversations we were having in person. Looking back, we both knew that there was a special connection on that first date, and were relieved that the connection we had online and over the phone was still there.

From the beginning of our relationship, we both committed to keeping God at the center of our lives. With the distance between us, we had to trust that God was going to work the details out if this was the relationship He was calling us into. We both have four children, so the distance was only part of what could have made things complicated.

Describe the moment you knew it was true love!
We both knew that we wanted to get married within our first couple of meetings, but I think for both of us, this “moment” actually happened on the phone.

Because we live so far away from each other, we’ve only met an average of twice a month for the last 10 months, so much of our relationship has been virtual. Our wedding will be our 17th meeting/date.

What advice would you give other ChristianMingle members?
I would advise them to trust the online dating process, but more importantly to trust God. Two years before logging on to Christian Mingle, I prayed for a mate. I was specific with my request about what I wanted (a man who was in love with Christ, would point me to Jesus, and set an example for my children). I knew that trusting God meant being open to meeting someone in a way other than what I would choose (I also knew it might mean being single longer than I would have liked to). Once online, I was constantly asking God to confirm things for me.

Josh and I have made an effort to hold onto our relationship with an open hand, knowing (and trusting) that God could confirm the relationship or draw us away from it. Having God be a part of the process made the “online” process – along with the distance between us and the challenge of blending two families – less of an issue.
