Written by married couple Eric and Leslie Ludy, When God Writes Your Love Story is an inspirational book intended for the younger generation. Giving single teens and young adults hope and advice for future relationships, the book’s main idea is to give yourself up to God and trust that He will have a plan for you.

If you’ve been struggling with failed romances, are frustrated with how you’ve been treated by a loved one in the past, or just can’t seem to figure out how to find your one true love, try reading When God Writes Your Love Story. Originally written in 2006 with the subtitle “The Ultimate Guide to Guy/Girl Relationships,” the expanded version was published three years later. This is the couple’s best-selling book. Many of the couple’s writings focus on romance and letting God lead that romance.

When God Writes Your Love Story is written like an advice book from the perspective of both authors. Both Eric and Leslie often switch off from one chapter to the next and include personal stories of their romantic frustrations during their early years. There are 15 chapters on topics including young personalities and egos, modern romance and courting, and learning faithfulness.

Linda writes when she first prayed to God as a lovelorn teenager, she heard Him respond, “You continue to get your heart broken because you are holding the pen of your life and trying to write your own story. I am the Author of true love. I am the Creator of romance. I know your heart’s every desire. I was to script a beautiful tale just for you, but first you must give the pen to Me. You must let Me become the center of your existence. You must let me have total control of your love life, and every other area of your life as well.”

The best way to find true love, write the authors, is to give yourself up completely to God. Not just by praying to Him that He blesses you with a significant other, but by allowing Him into all aspects of your life. It is only when you lead a Christ-centered life that everything else will fall into place. You’ll be a happier person all-around, argue the Ludys, when you put your trust in something – and someone – higher than yourself.

Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s. Psalms 103: 2-5

Love God with all your strength and have faith that you can be transformed through Him. Loving God all the time, not just during “Sunday morning services and Wednesday night Bible studies,” as Eric comments, is the key to a successful relationship.

The book is interspersed with stimulating quotes and Scripture verses, along with questions to ask yourself and challenges to attempt in your personal life. The authors’ personal love story – how they met one another and found true love – culminates in the extended version’s final chapters and epilogue. Leslie writes about life after “I Do.”

This bestselling book does not disappoint readers, from what reviews note, with almost everyone commenting on the transformative power of their words. While the book is intended for a younger audience, both teens and adults can find inspiration from well-conceived thoughts. Any Christian seeking an honest and lasting relationship should pick up When God Writes Your Love Story.
