I met Carlos on ChristianMingle in October of 2011 but because I had been through a tough experience before, I was unsure if a dating site was going to work for me. When I first saw Carlos’s profile, it did not have a picture and he only had a few sentences in the “About Me” section. The distance between us also discouraged me but I decided to trust the Lord and take a chance. I am so glad I did!

At first, our conversations started at the site and then we began exchanging emails for hours at a time. I remember spending at least 2 to 3 hours with him via email, sharing what God had done in our lives. As I talked with him, I realized Carlos had all the characteristics I was looking for in a man. We finally exchanged phone numbers and started texting. Although it took getting over our fears to actually begin talking on the phone, once we did, we spent hours talking about the Lord and how good He is!

Weeks went by. December came and he finally asked me to be his girlfriend on December 5, 2011! The biggest day for us came on December 10, 2011 when we finally met in person outside a movie theater. I had no idea what car he drove and somehow managed to stop and park right next to him. Since the first time I saw him, I fell in love with him! I’m so glad he felt the same way!

On our first date, we walked around a lake near our meeting spot and through our long conversation; I already knew that I did not want to spend the rest of my life without him. We spent the next nine months getting to know one another and somehow overcame the 240 miles between us.

On July 7, 2012, Carlos came to my town as any other weekend. He was dressed up and gave me a present and a card that said, “My love, I feel so happy to be with you this special day.” As I continued to read the card, tears of joy kept falling, and I was so happy. Later, he surprised me by taking me to the lake where we had spent our first date and handed me a card that had my name on it. Inside in big letters it spelled, “WILL YOU MARRY ME?” I said “YES” and he took out the ring and he put it on my finger!

Nine months after our first meeting, we are so in love with each other, engaged, and planning our wedding for June 22, 2013! Even though the distance has been a real challenge for us, our relationship only proves one thing: Good things happen to those who wait patiently in the Lord. I am certain that without God, Carlos and I would have never met.
