Justin and I met on ChristianMingle on January 15, 2011. It all started when he sent me a message with the subject of “Introductions” in the title. Justin lived in Detroit, MI and I lived in Lithonia, GA but in his message he said that he wanted to get to know more about me even though we were in different states. I agreed to chat with him online via ChristianMingle and we hit it off immediately! We chatted on the site for about 2 hours and realized there was already chemistry! The next day, Justin sent me an email stating that he enjoyed our chat and that he wanted to chat again that evening. I agreed and during this chat, Justin informed me that he was involved in a terrible motorcycle accident that caused him to lose his right leg. He asked me if that bothered me and if I still wanted to get to know him. Without any hesitation, I told him that the loss of his leg did not mean he was any less of a man. I was amazed and attracted to his will and desire to live normally in spite of his injury. It really showed me how strong he was and how much Justin trusts God.

Justin and I chatted online and exchanged a number of email messages through January until after Valentine’s Day. On Valentine’s Day, Justin sent me a nice card via email that warmed my heart. The next day, he sent a song by a Christian rapper named Sho Baraka entitled, “We Can Be More”. This song expressed how Justin felt about me and how he wanted to take the relationship to the next level. He asked me to call and I agreed to speak with him on the phone. When I heard his voice for the first time, my heart literally skipped a beat!

Justin informed me that he had family in Georgia and that he was planning a trip to visit them. I was so excited and nervous at the same time. We called each other every day, sent email messages, and video chatted! We even had movie dates via video chat as well. We were counting the days until we could see each other face to face and embrace. Justin flew to Atlanta on April 2, 2011. I picked him up at the airport and the chemistry was even more obvious in person! We had our first date at a nice little quaint restaurant in Atlanta. During his trip, we enjoyed each other so much that the days seemed to fly right by. Justin met all of my immediate family during that visit and they all liked him! He left Atlanta and on Mother’s Day weekend, I flew to Detroit to see him. It was a wonderful weekend and I even got to meet his entire family!

Afterwards, Justin and I travelled many times to see one another. Our families gave us the nickname “Jet Setters” because we were flying back and forth so much. Over time, our love grew more and more primarily because we knew that God had allowed our paths to cross for a reason. We were very big on encouraging each other to go further in the things of the Lord! Our relationship with Him was paramount. Soon, we knew that God wanted us to be together and we began to discuss marriage. Some people thought we were moving fast, but we knew that God had put us together so we felt good with the time frame.

Justin’s proposal was a BIG Surprise! I found out later that he had been planning his proposal for about 2 months and he had my family in on his plans as well! One night, my family got me to go to a restaurant for what was supposed to be a friend’s birthday dinner. When I arrived, there were a lot of family members there and a photographer, but I did not think anything about it because Justin was supposed to be in Detroit. Justin sent me a text message saying that he made it to his destination safely. I did not know his destination was Atlanta. After everyone was seated, I saw a man dressed like a waiter come upstairs. I thought he looked like Justin and once he got to the top of the stairs, I realized that it was Justin and I was elated! I still thought it was my friend’s birthday dinner so I was not expecting a proposal. At the end of dinner, everyone ordered our favorite dessert, key lime pie. It took them a long time to get our dessert to us. I thought this was strange but I did not make a big fuss about it. When they brought the dessert out, my plate was decorated and it had “Will You Marry Me?” written on it. I was so shocked and moved to tears and of course I said YES!!!!!

Justin and I were married May 16, 2012 on the beach in Negril, Jamaica. Our family and friends were there to celebrate with us as well. Through marriage, our love for each other continues to grow each day. We are both very thankful that ChristianMingle was created because without the site Justin and I would not have met. Thanks a million!
