brittany-and-jonathan-02How did you meet? What was your first date like? Give us all the details!
We began chatting on your website after my father had prodded me to seriously consider the online alternative. After chatting via ChristianMingle mail, we had Skyped a few times and decided to give Facebook a try. I found her mother’s profile and after finding that her father was Deceased, I figured I would try a for surprise introduction after giving her mother a chance to meet me beforehand, and we went on from there.

Describe the moment you knew it was true love!
I had my own ideas of the ideal woman for me, and I’m known by my family and friends as a fun-loving and giving person. My persistent belief was that God was doing something, but I couldn’t figure out what. It seemed like we felt comfortable enough to take time to share ideas and past events in our lives. We kind of connected mentally and emotionally, and it was a nice feeling to realize a pattern and a feeling of acceptance and being needed in a special way. I really wasn’t sure if this was going to go all the way; I mean, we’d both gone through some changes in our lives before we met.

After getting some things out in the open and the understanding and clarity afterwards, it kind of left the aura that this could work! I had this settled feeling in my heart (and I’m nothing really special), but I felt that there was no better person so deserving of God’s love than her. The feeling of mutual appreciation and her respect and longing for a decent guy is what captured my heart.

What advice would you give other ChristianMingle members?
Don’t be in a hurry. Take the time to get to know the person, also get to know the family and some of their friends. If they aren’t being completely honest after the first few dates, it will begin to show. It generally takes time and patience. We didn’t get engaged right away, and when we did, we were engaged long enough to try to get our heads wrapped around the concept – that this is what our life could look like when we are together. We covered brittany-and-jonathan-03lots of topics, including money, children and intimacy (three of the biggest reasons for divorce in this country). Because life can get hectic, Americans work a lot, and our schedules sometimes can get the best of us sometimes. But when it comes to relationships, I would encourage anyone not to be afraid to ask the tough questions.

Don’t be too forward too soon. If you begin to get comfortable with someone and marriage is the end goal, then it is time to begin getting down to the nitty gritty and asking the serious questions. A book that I would recommend for starters is “The Five Love Languages.” Take turns reading through the chapters with your partner. Again, do this when the time is right and you both are ready for taking the steps toward marriage.

The key to any solid marriage is quality counsel, and keep Christ at the focus.
