Matthew 5:5 – Blessed (happy, blithesome, joyous, spiritually prosperous–with life-joy and satisfaction in God’s favor and salvation, regardless of their outward conditions) are the meek (the mild, patient, long-suffering), for they shall inherit the earth! [Ps. 37:11.]

Meek is perhaps one of the most misunderstood words in the King James Bible. In some dictionaries meek is defined as spiritless, overly submissive, docile, and evidencing little courage. Is it godly to be spiritless, docile and lifeless? For many years meekness has been demonstrated as the life of a Christian – boring!

Thankfully we now recognize that a godly, Christian life is exciting and adventurous. And that meek does not mean subservient-doormat with no life.

Matthew 5 tells us that you are blessed, regardless of your outward conditions, if you have a patient, perseverant and mild manner (in other words, you don’t fly off the handle), because you will inherit the earth. If however, you are impatient, give up easily, and crumble in a heap when things aren’t going your way, well, you aren’t blessed and probably won’t inherit anything.

The take home message of today is that if you want to inherit the earth, be meek. But don’t be cowardly and dull, be patient and endure till the end. Oh, and be happy about it. Then you will receive the crown of life.

Be amazing.
