With so many movies out today, it can be hard to decide which are the best for you and your family. Some movies are too gory, some are too violent and some are inappropriate for certain age groups.

The Bible tells us that in order to live our lives according to our faith, we should be wary of the things we see and do and always strive to act in ways that honor God. That’s not to say that the occasional scary movie can’t be seen and enjoyed, simply that we must be aware of what we are watching. Always keep God in mind, as though He were watching the movie alongside you. 

Luckily, we’re here to help you figure out which movies to see and which have the best features. We’ve compiled a list of the top 10 Blu-ray videos for you to take home and watch with your entire family.  

1. Home Run

This movie is all about second chances, finding love and being a good sport. Enjoyed by audiences of all ages, Home Run follows the story of Cory Brand, an all-star baseball player who is forced to face his past head-on. Home Run is a popular movie to show at church group meetings, and one that teaches inspirational lessons that any Christian family will be happy to hear. The Blu-ray will be released in October 2013.

2. The Book of Esther

Love watching stories about heroes? Then The Book of Esther is the movie for you. Esther, the real-life biblical heroine who saved the Jewish people from the treacherous Haman, has her story told in The Book of Esther, a disc that has many great features, including director’s commentary and behind-the-scenes footage.

3. One Night with the King

Esther is certainly a popular female with a good story, and she takes pride of place in the 2006 telling of her story in One Night with the King, a movie that has garnered many great reviews. This is the story of Esther’s life.

4. Flicka

Country singer Tim McGraw stars in this movie about a temperamental young girl and a wild horse who find themselves in one another. The story is all about family and faith, and is based on the original 1947 film My Friend Flicka and the novel written by Mary O’Hara.   

5. The Chronicles of Narnia

Based on the Christian-themed children’s stories written by C. S. Lewis, The Chronicles of Narnia tell the tale of Lucy and her siblings who enter a magical world through various means and are thrown into roles of leadership, saving the world of Narnia time and again from one evil or another. Complete with fantastical creatures and mythical adventures, The Chronicles of Narnia is a tale that all children will truly love and learn from. The three films, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader grossed more than $1.5 billion at the box office worldwide.

6. Ice Age

Ice Age is one of those movies that your kids will get a kick out of and you’ll laugh right along with them. The story, featuring an all-star cast of actors, is an animated feature that follows a woolly mammoth, a sloth and a saber-toothed tiger as they trek across the continent. Amid all the laughs, the movie teaches the power of friendship and courage. The Blu-ray includes a number of special features, including deleted scenes and short films. The sequels are also just as entertaining.

7. Finding Nemo

Another animated movie that the entire family will love, Finding Nemo takes place in an underwater world where a clownfish dad named Marlin seeks to find his lost son, Nemo. He encounters many adventures and meets many creatures along the way, including jellyfish and sea turtles. In his effort to reunite with his son, viewers are taught the true meaning of family.  

8. Dolphin Tale

This is the story of a bond between a little boy and an injured dolphin. Deemed one of the best family movies by The Dove Foundation, Dolphin Tale is a good-natured film that will keep both young children and adults entertained while also imparting some life lessons along the way.

9. The Lion King

One of the classic animated Disney films, The Lion King presents a timeless story about the bond between father and son, and about friendship. Enter the Sahara desert and follow Simba as he finds himself and saves his tribe from ruin. Some parts of the film can be a bit scary for very young audiences, so be sure to review the movie before deciding to show it to your littlest.

10. Cars

Just like the other animated films on our list, Cars is a feel-good family movie that instills some lasting impressions on your children. Talking cars are only part of the movie – watch it yourself to see how powerful it can be.
