Alex and I met on ChristianMingle in April of 2012 and met in person in June 2012. Our first meeting was in Nashville during a local arts festival. Over the course of the next few months, we emailed frequently and met about once or twice a week. I quickly fell for Alex, being the beautiful child of God she is, and somehow convinced her to keep dating me.

I proposed on March 29, 2013 on a walking trail in my town. She never saw it coming! I hid the ring in an Easter egg and had some friends taking pictures. I casually found the egg as I asked her to marry me. We are set to get hitched on September 7, 2013.

I’d say one of the biggest challenges of online dating is that our communities are totally different. It’s very challenging to balance both of our communities in dating. For instance, our friends’ Christmas parties fell on the same day and we had to choose which one we were going to. It has been one of the toughest challenges but also one of the largest blessings. I now have good friends in two different communities!

Success for us was due in large part to the pace we set initially. I was not interested in immediately meeting her. Once I felt we had a significant connection through digital means, about a month or two of emailing and phone calls, I asked her to meet me in person and I did it in a public place where she could choose to escape easily if needed. I also met her on her stomping grounds. In essence, I did not ask her to come to me and instead I went to her. As time went on, we did our best not to keep a record, to avoid the “I came to you last time” kind of mentality. This is key. Love truly keeps no record of wrong.
